Last week was another busy week and it was an absolute honour to celebrate being a year old by spending the evening showing off our successes at the V&A. East London Radio has been a bit of a whirlwind and writing down all out successes has made me realise that the decision Ian and I took to create ELR was a good one considering the fantastic team we have creating some engaging content for all of East London.
The Year in Numbers
120,777 Unique visits on our website
50,000 Visits since January 2014 alone
242,277 Page impressions on the website
100,000 Page impressions since January 2014 alone
More than 230 pieces of content created and uploaded
And lots of invitations to participate in great events like Shuffle Festival, V&A Hackney Wick Takeover and cover films at the Hackney Picturehouse and the BFI London Film Festival.
East London Radio was selected by Creative Skillset as a case study of best practice in volunteering within the creative industries last year and have been really supportive in helping our reputation reach further than we ever thought it would. Orlaith read this article and decided that coming to London for 3 months as part of her degree to spend time at ELR would benefit her future prospects and our executive team saw the potential in her so asked her to take on the role of station manager.
The pace of how quickly things move at East London Radio has overwhelmed Ian and I which is why we appointed our first board of directors as we transitioned into a community interest company (CIC) to better serve the community. We now have Ian Chambers as co-founder and Managing Director, Aaron McCarter as co-founder & Training & Operations Director, recently retired Olympian Jeanette Kwakye is Youth Director, Steven Porter is Development Director and Mel Palleschi is Creative Director.

This week is the 1 year anniversary of our Twitter account and Aaron was amazed we got 200 followers in the first 2 days, and now we’re pretty close to 4000 followers. Our website followed in April, premises from May, and its continued at that fast pace ever since!

ELR at V&A: Hackney Wick Takeover
This is a video our very own Station Manager, Orlaith Condon and Development Director, Steven Porter created to showcase the beautiful area we have been lucky enough to spend our first year in and hopefully many more to come. You can hear the sounds of the overground as it arrives into Hackney Wick and follow it all the way to our main studio there. Also some interviews gathered for ELR where they mention specifically the appeal of the area. All set to a track we found online… check that out here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdNigp7rgbQ
Again we’ve had all our amazing volunteers in this week creating more amazing content… to all of them, THANK YOU! You can listen to any content you missed here.
Thanks to everyone who has been involved in any way with ELR in the past year from volunteers, to partners, to our listeners, we appreciate it all and look forward to what year 2 of East London Radio has to offer.
